Bio: Dr. Joris Rotmans is a professor of Internal Medicine and the head of the Nephrology medical residency program and the Nephrology subdepartment at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), The Netherlands. Prof. Rotmans is also president-elect of the Vascular Access Society and chair of a ‘vascular tissue engineering’ focused TERMIS group. He combines his clinical duties with research, focusing on technical innovations for patients with kidney diseases and investigating innovative solutions for improved vascular access durability in hemodialysis patients. With over 120 clinical and pre-clinical published papers, his most recent works include a novel method for in situ tissue-engineered blood vessels (TEBVs) for arteriovenous grafting and analyses of controlled growth factor release in TEBVs in vivo. In this first ISACB Webinar organized by the EU and US Young Investigators Committee, Prof. Rotmans will share an overview of his research and how to translate vascular in situ tissue engineering from the bench to the bedside.
